§ 2-2-24. Officers, organizational meeting and general function of chairman.

  • At the first meeting of the board in January after the election of the members, the board shall organize by electing one of its members chairman, and another person, not a member of said board, as clerk of said board. Said chairman shall preside at all meetings of the board when he is present and shall be the executive officer of said board. He shall sign, as chairman thereof, all contracts and county warrants, when so ordered by the board. Such instruments shall also be countersigned by the clerk of the board. The chairman shall, when deemed necessary, call special meetings of the board, and shall, through the clerk of said board, give to the other members thereof, sufficient notice. At the meeting in which the chairman shall be elected, there shall also be elected, a vice-chairman, who shall, in the absence of the chairman, preside over the meetings of the board, and discharge all other duties required of the chairman.

Ga. Laws 1980, P. 3009, Act No. 679 proposed an amendment to the above section. Such amendment was subject to approval at referendum and failed to receive such approval.
